New York Mets Win Baseball Game by HBP

The exciting extra inning game against the Oakland Athletics in which the bases were loaded, with two outs and the New York Mets batting in the bottom of the thirteenth inning something really special happened…

The A’s had chosen to intentionally walk Jose Reyes to load the bases and put all the pressure on the Mets batter Justin Turner who would be facing a situation in which there was two out, bases loaded, tie game, bottom of the inning walk-off potential, extra inning game, at home in front of 38,000 screaming New York fans, and then…Justin Turner got hit by a pitch, a HBP, essentially walking to first and ‘batting in’ the game winning run. A walk-off…. no a hit-by-pitch-off game ending shocking and unusual ending to a game. Crazy, and the 36-38 New York Mets are remaining around .500 meaning they are in the wild card picture still. Several new New York Met players have really stepped up including Justin Turner and pitcher Dillon Gee. The first 10 starts for Gee were VICTORIES for the Mets, an awesome accomplishment. Gee is the real deal.

Jose Reyes is possibly, and in many many people’s minds, the best player on the planet right now. This is because he is leading the league in batting average, and doing so with top numbers in runs scored and stolen bases. Plenty of doubles and a boat load of triples makes Jose Reyes one of the most electrifying players in baseball.

Jose Reyes might be gone soon. Whether it is at the trade deadline, or more likely after the season, Jose Reyes is gonna cash in on his skills and the Mets might be outbid for his future services. Mets fans have to accept this, because it is the likely scenario. It makes me sad, obviously he is such a fun personality and an awesome talent. I wish we find a way to keep Jose Reyes in a Mets uniform for many, many years. I sure hope so.

David Wright has been injured for some time with a broken back, Jason Bay is working through an extremely extended slump in which he forgot how to hit home runs, and Ike Davis is hopefully going to stay healthy for the rest of the season. K-Rod is locking it down in the Mets bullpen, while in general our pitching has been fairly good and our overall defense has been solid. The Mets have a pretty good looking lineup when they get Wright and Davis back and will be capable of scoring 10 runs in a game once in awhile.

The Bottom Line is this. This game tonight is the start of a nice run of games for the Mets in which they blast past .500 and start sweeping some serious series. Let’s Go Mets!

Opening Day of the 2010 Baseball Season

The opening day of the 2010 baseball season is finally upon us and all the offseason talking and waiting is finally behind us and the excitement of your favorite team is at least tied for first place for the moment.

My favorite team is obviously the New York Mets, and although I have a lot of hope for this upcoming season I sense a lot of pessimism from some of my friends. They all say we have absolutely no pitching, besides Johan and K-Rod.

The Las Vegas Strip casinos are putting the odds that the Mets only win half their games, finishing 81-81. Everyone points to the early season injury issues of some of the same players who missed huge chunks of time last season. Obviously, the NL pennant winner Philadelphia Phillies are obviously just as strong, and it seems Atlanta, Washington and possibly Florida have made some big strides. The Mets are predicted to finish the middle of the pack in the NL East, with the best case scenario putting them at battling for the wild-card to make the playoffs.

I just don’t buy all of that. I believe, with the level of talent we have we should be realistically battling to win the division. Our pitching obviously needs to keep us in games and our offense needs to be consistent. 2, 3, or 4 runs is not enough, we need to be scoring runs and hopefully the addition of Jason Bay is going to give us that extra punch we need to put some big innings on the scoreboard frequently.

I want us to be better than .500, and I believe we can be. CitiField is definitely a pitcher’s park so let’s use that to our advantage. That means playing great defense. With the best recent New York Mets teams including the World Series team in 2000 defense was one of the Mets catalysts for shutting down other teams big innings.

Just watched Neil Diamond sing “Sweet Caroline” at Fenway Park for the Opening Day baseball game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The place was rocking and the game has been very entertaining. I hope this is a sign for what is to come this baseball season, because I am really hoping the Mets are rocking this year playing a very entertaining brand of baseball.

Mets Sign Jason Bay

The New York Mets signed free agent outfielder Jason Bay as reported by WFAN in New York. This is huge news for Mets fans as Jason Bay was one of the top two free agent hitters available this off season.

Jason Bay should help hit the long ball and some extra base hits when he finds the gaps. His speed helps as well and we could be looking at over 20 stolen bases from Jason Bay this season.

4 Years 66 Million and the potential for a 5th year

Thank You Jason Bay for joining the Mets. We support you 100% and hope you live up to your expectations. Best of Luck and Stay Healthy, please.
