Church Answers Our Prayers

Ryan Church again was clutch. This time after the Mets blew a 9th inning lead to the perpetual doormat of the NL Central, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Church’s RBI single in extra innings put the Mets at 2 consecutive wins, both of which he had his hands on.

Fernando Tatis had a big day scoring runs, hitting a homer, and getting some RBIs.

With our entire team on DL, we need guys like this stepping up

Add the Lowly Pittsburgh Pirates to Our List of Rivals

According to the Pirates, the Mets have “Zero Class”

Yea, we sure do have “Zero Class”, but not because Beltran said the Mets getting swept by the Pirates was embarassing, but because the Mets getting swept by the Pirates is embarrasing.

Beltran is right on, we are way better then the Pirates. Just this week, the pirates traded away their best player, Nate McClouth (who happens to be on my fantasy team and now I have to drop him because he is on our bitter rival the Braves),  like they do every year. They have not had a winning season since like Bonds left to get closer to his Steroid supplier.

So we already have a rivalry with:

  1. Yankees
  2. Phillies
  3. Braves
  4. Marlins
  5. & to a lesser extent a few others like the Red Sox

but now we get to add a new one with the NL Central Perpetual Doormats. And nothing gets a sub .500 team interested in playing their absolute best more then a rivalry against a big city team.

btw, we lost on Saturday to the NL East Perpetual Doormats by a lot, 7-1. That is also embarrassing.  I know I can’t wait to get back to NY.

Mets Get Their Asses Kicked In the Steel City

I am nervous.

Mets seem to be unraveling at the seams.

Injuries, starting pitching issues and Putz are making the entire team appear to be  completely off balanced.

Phillies are reeling off wins and we need to be able to beat sub .500 teams in order to stay within reach while we get healthy.

In no way does that plan entail getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The month of June is crucial. We can literally bury ourselves in the division, falling 10 games out, or worse. Of course the team can use the we are so injured built in excuse.

Or you can resemble a championship team and stand up in the face of adversity.

Gut check time.

Which one will it be?

Johan Santana’s Run Support

Johan Santana’s Run Support, or lack thereof, is cause for concern.

In 5 of Johan’s 11 starts this season, the Mets have scored 2 runs or less.

That is cause for concern because this offense is much more capable then that. You can’t even blame it on the injuries, the many many freak injuries. The Mets couldn’t score runs for Johan Santana before they all got hurt.

Pirates pitcher Zach Duke is having a good year, so another strong showing wasn’t unexpected.

But still, we’ve lost 3 of 4 and giving that team at the other end of the NJ Turnpike some breathing room. We need to get this rode trip turned around, and you would hope the lowly, low budget, overachieving Pirates couldn’t possibly be capable of sweeping us.

Charlie Brown Throws Out First Pitch

Charlie Brown threw out the first pitch to Pirate Parrot at the Pittsburgh Pirates home game against the New York Mets.

The pitch by Charlie Brown was way off the mark, nearly hitting a fan in section 103.

A Tough One to Swallow and an Overdue J.J. Putz Rant

I didn’t get a chance to watch the game today. I did get a mid game update – Mets beating the shit out of the Pirates 5-0 – that had me doing double fist pumps while driving.

Later, when I got home and turned on this Mets Blog to find out how the game played out, I was shocked. No devastated. Mets blew a 5 run lead. Against the Pirates of all teams.

Putz is getting ripped everywhere. He sucked the other night, the other other night, and the other other other night, but it wasn’t until this recent sucking that I have lost all hope that this guy was gonna live up to his billing.

Earlier today I heard rumors the Mets were gonna get Putz some save chances, record a couple saves to up his trade value, then unload him to fill a need. Who wants this guy now. He is untouchable – in the not good way.

Until then, Jerry, Please, Please DO NOT let this guy pitch in any even remotely important game moment. Mop up duty is ok, but even then keep him on a short leash b/c he can’t get anyone out.

Carlos Delgado 5 RBI’s Makes It 5 Wins

Mets are on a roll after Carlos Delgado lit up the scoreboard against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

For the last week, the Mets have been doing everything they weren’t doing earlier in the year. Clutch hitting, effective starting pitching, and power hitting. Let’s keep it up!

Great game by Jonathan Niese who was called up to replace Oliver Perez in the rotation. Niese’s effectiveness in this role is vital for the Mets because he is our go to guy when we need a fill in.
