Opening Day Mets vs. Florida

Mets win, the Mets win! The sensational (not yet) Mets are 1-0 and like usual we dominate on opening day. Against a pitcher in the Marlin’s Josh Johnson, who normally owns us (now 7-1), the Mets looked impressive in front of a sold out CitiField.

Newcomers played well and David Wright went yard, hopefully both of which are signs of good things to come.

Johan Santana is looking like the Cy Young Award candidate that we predicted he would win, he will win, this year. With run support, 7 runs, Johan Santana could be the best pitcher in baseball. He has the advantage of pitching at CitiField, which is where home run hitters become sacrifice-fly hitters.

Yankees blew there opener against the Red Sox. Mets are 1-0 and the Yankees are 0-1. That feels good. Yankees victory last season over the Phillies earned them some love from Mets fans, because as much as we love saying Fuck the Yankees we would much rather them winning over those Phillies. Most Mets fans dislike our division rival much more significantly than even the depths of hatred we show towards the Yankees.

Mets Mets Official 2010 Baseball Season Predictions:

Mets win the division!
Johan wins the Cy Young
Wright finishes in the top 3 for MVP voting.

Mets Spring Training

The New York Mets like every Major League Baseball team has reported to spring training. The season is right around the corner and the Mets have plenty of issues and questions for this upcoming season.

Omar Minaya is loved and hated. Some like him, and whats not to like about him when he has brought plenty of big name free agents into the clubhouse. Some despise him, and whats to like about a guy whose expensive free agents turn into injury plagued and overpriced wash-ups.

Our pitching is pathetic, save Johan Santana and K-Rod. Really pathetic if you compare our staff to our arch rival Philadelphia Phillies’ staff. Even Washington has a sensational rookie and Atlanta has improved.

Our medical staff is a joke, the ridiculous day to day hamstring issues and other minor injuries kept our players out for months and months, and eventually several of our players had to get off-season injuries. That is not acceptable especially when WebMD could have done a better job treating the team.

Other issues exist, but for now lets focus on the positives. Vegas thinks we won’t have another deplorable season, in fact they predict not to have a losing season. On the other hand, the Vegas Strip casinos didn’t pick us to have a winning season either. Our upcoming season projection 81-81, which obviously would suck to all of us hopeful Mets fans. 81-81 might as well be 0-162, cause if we don’t make the playoffs this over payed roster again will not live up to their value.

When I saw that we only were projected for 81 wins I got into a discussion with another Mets fan – J.R., here is how it went:
METSMETS – METS 81 wtf
J.R. – I like the over, but 81 is fair…they won 70 last year, remember
METSMETS – They were picked to win the World Series at the beginning of last year by the jinx, we aren’t better? we didn’t lose much and gained the Bay of hope.
J.R. – our pitching sucks. Last year, those predictions were based on Pelfrey getting better, Perez and Maine being healthy and JJ Putz being lights out in the 8th. Those things may never happen.
METSMETS – With low expectations Mets surprise everyone with 95-100 wins this season… and thats a stone cold lead pipe LOCK
J.R. – Stop rooting for my team….One….this team ain’t getting 95 wins. Two…if they do, we go out first round. Thanks…
As you can see, this fan has been through years of pre-season hype, which like many leads to very high hopes. But invariably, the dreams all come crashing down with years of disappointment.
