Meet the Amazing Mets
NY Mets Shortstop Jose Reyes
The New York Mets spark plug is Jose Reyes. When Jose Reyes can get things going for the Mets by getting on base the excitement amongst Mets fans instantly rises. Jose Reyes is always a threat to steal a base, his 78 steals in 2007 was the most by any player from a New York team in a season. Reyes led the league in steals in 2005, 2006, and 2007. As the team leader in runs scored, Jose is the catalyst for a lot of the New York Mets big innings. The New York Mets wins and losses on the season correspond to Jose Reyes’ performance on any given day. Jose Reyes means that much to the Mets success. Defensively, Jose Reyes is a very talented shortstop who can make highlight reel plays that rob batters of hits. Jose Reyes is one of Mets fans top favorites on this team because of the excitement he brings to the lineup and his fun loving personality which is seen with his playful interactions with his teammates.
NY Mets Third Baseman David Wright

David Wright is the five tool superstar 3rd baseman for the New York Mets. David Wright was the first New York Met in history to have 3 consecutive 100 RBI seasons. Wright hits home runs at a solid rate and is a force in the middle of the Mets lineup. David Wright is also one of the top run scorers on the New York Mets. As a five tool player, David Wright also has the speed to steal bases and hits for a high batting average. New York Mets fans love David Wright, an all around good guy and someone who obviously enjoys playing baseball. The New York Mets playoff and World Series hopes rest in David Wright’s hands, he needs to continually contribute with his bat, his speed, and his defense if the Mets are to be a contender in October.
NY Mets Center Fielder Carlos Beltran

Carlos Beltran is the clean up hitting superstar on the Mets who can win games with his bat or with his glove. A gold glove winning center fielder, Carlos Beltran consistently makes difficult plays look routine while robbing opponents of extra base hits. Carlos Beltran combines everything you would want from your clean up hitter. Beltran has clutch power, evidenced by his record tieing 8 home runs with Houston Astros in the 2004 playoffs. Beltran also tied the Mets single season record for home runs with 41 after joining the team a few years ago. With power comes RBI’s, and Beltran drives in runners consistently. However, Beltran’s skills don’t stop at just defense and power, his speed on the bases is also remarkable. Scoring runs and stealing bases makes Carlos Beltran a five-tool run producing superstar. Another favorite amongst New York Mets fans for his offensive and defensive capabilities, Carlos Beltran also brings a great attitude and warm smile to the ballpark everyday.
NY Mets Left Fielder Daniel Murphy
Up and coming young player who should be a force in the Mets Lineup considering the support he has around him. On opening day 2009 Daniel Murphy hit the Mets first home run of the season
NY Mets First Baseman Carlos Delgado

Carlos Delgado is the New York Mets 1st basemen who when hot can carry the Mets offense for long stretches of the season. Usually batting fifth or sixth in the lineup behind Carlos Beltran or David Wright, Carlos Delgado often takes advantage of having runners on base in front of him by slugging the ball for doubles or home runs. Delgado is a talented 1st baseman, maybe not the best in the league but still above average for his position defensively. In 2007, Carlos Delgado appeared to have lost some of his power and his batting average was down from where it once was, but with the continued support of New York Mets fans he revived his stroke and was knocking the cover off the ball all year long in 2008.
NY Mets Second Baseman Luis Castillo
Luis Castillo is a veteran baseball player who has been in the big leagues for a long time. Luis Castillo still has speed and the ability to score runs while adding the occasional home run. Defensively, second baseman Luis Castillo is solid.

Catchers Brian Schneider and Ramon Castro are pretty good. Brian Schneider, who came to the Mets with Ryan Church via the Lastings trade from Washington, is an excellent defensive catcher. In a backup role, catcher Ramon Castro regularly hits home runs when he has an opportunity to play.
NY Mets Right Fielder Ryan Church
Ryan Church has been a huge addition to the New York Mets lineup in 2008 after being traded from Washington. Quickly becoming popular amongst Mets fans, Ryan Church has surprisingly unleashed a more powerful bat then what was initially expected of him.
NY Mets Starting Pitchers
Pedro Martinez, Johan Santana, John Maine, Oliver Perez, and Mike Pelfrey are the starting pitchers for the New York Mets. When healthy, Pedro Martinez is a force that can be dominant. Johan Santana is easily one of the greatest pitchers to ever put on a New York Mets jersey. Still in the prime of his career, Venezuelan native Johan Santana is a strike out machine who makes great hitters look silly. John Maine is a streaky pitcher who can be very effective at times. With a good variety of pitches, John Maine can keep opposing batters off balance and keep the game close enough for the Mets hitters to have a regular chance to win games. The superstitious and erratic Oliver Perez has a lot of talent, but his mental toughness often comes into question. Mike Pelfrey is one of several New York Mets who have been used as the 5th starter in the rotation. A talented youngster, Mike Pelfrey has been gaining experience over the last couple of years which can hopefully make him a serious factor on the Mets pitching staff in the future. Other starting pitchers are Claudio Vargas and Orlando Hernandez.
NY Mets Bullpen

The Mets bullpen is led by all star closer Billy Wagner. Billy Wagner is a hard throwing strikeout machine who normally closes the door on opposing teams in the ninth inning earning the save and securing the Mets win. Besides Billy Wagner, the New York Mets bullpen has some talented relievers in Scott Schoeneweis, Pedro Feliciano, and newly acquired setup man JJ Putz.
Recently the Mets have added All Star record setting closer Francisco Rodriguez as their closer to replace the injured Billy Wagner.
