Mets Fire General Manager Omar Minaya and Manager Jerrry Manuel
Posted by admin in Jerry Manuel, Omar Minaya on October 6th, 2010
Mets fans got what they wanted, a clean house. Owner Jeff Wilpon took full responsibility for the struggling team that hasn’t made the playoffs in way too long (4 years). By taking full responsibility, Wilpon decided that it was his decision to hire General Manager Omar Minaya and Manager Jerry Manuel that were the big mistakes and so he fixed those mistakes by firing both of them immediately after the Mets finished the season, with a losing record.
One of the highest payrolls in the Major Leagues, the New York Mets managed to win 79 games and lose 83 games this season. What is really hard to digest as a Mets fan was the early promise this season showed, with the Mets clearly in the hunt until the dreadful play following the All Star Break. At the end of the season, the Mets had way more questions than answers.
What do you do with Carlos Beltran? He only has one more year left on his contract.
What do you do with the pitching staff? Johan Santana is getting surgery, and pretty much everyone else is just not that good, though I really like R.A. Dickey knuckleball style that embarrasses hitter after hitter.
K-Rod is obviously not stable, and messing up his pitching hand punching his girlfriend’s father is just plain stupid. Equally stupid is violating a court order to not communicate with her and then go and send her 50 something text messages.
Who is this Jason Bay guy? Did we really spend all that money on a power hitter who couldn’t even come close to hitting 10 home runs this season.
There are dozens, literally dozens of other questions about the product the Mets are putting on the field.
Can Bobby Valentine fix all this? That seems to be the popular pick amongst fans as the next General Manager. But don’t count on the popular pick being the one chosen by an organization who has failed time and again at bringing in the right coach, general manager or player.
22 innings without scoring a single run

This team right now is bad.
Losing 9 of 11 just shows how bad.
Did I mention, oh yes I did in the title, we haven’t scored a run in 22 innings.
Talk is Jerry Manuel might be on the hot seat. We get swept some more, and that hot seat will be on fire.
With our payroll we need to be better then this. Injuries or not, 22 innings without scoring a single run is something you might expect from Pittsburgh, Washington or Kansas City. But the New York Mets? Yea the New York Mets who are a bunch of games under .500 and there is not a lot to be hopful for.
Manny Ramirez had three runs batted in. Steroids or not, he had 3 more runs batted in then our entire team. Manny Ramirez also got ejected for arguing balls and strikes. When Manny was thrown out, the Mets fans finally found something to cheer about. Because when you lose 9 to 0 there really isn’t much else to cheer for.
22 innings. And counting.
A Tough One to Swallow and an Overdue J.J. Putz Rant
Posted by Señor Met in Pittsburgh Pirates on June 1st, 2009
I didn’t get a chance to watch the game today. I did get a mid game update – Mets beating the shit out of the Pirates 5-0 – that had me doing double fist pumps while driving.
Later, when I got home and turned on this Mets Blog to find out how the game played out, I was shocked. No devastated. Mets blew a 5 run lead. Against the Pirates of all teams.
Putz is getting ripped everywhere. He sucked the other night, the other other night, and the other other other night, but it wasn’t until this recent sucking that I have lost all hope that this guy was gonna live up to his billing.
Earlier today I heard rumors the Mets were gonna get Putz some save chances, record a couple saves to up his trade value, then unload him to fill a need. Who wants this guy now. He is untouchable – in the not good way.
Until then, Jerry, Please, Please DO NOT let this guy pitch in any even remotely important game moment. Mop up duty is ok, but even then keep him on a short leash b/c he can’t get anyone out.

First Replay Ever at Fenway Gives Mets Go Ahead Home Run
Posted by Señor Met in Boston Red Sox on May 23rd, 2009
Omir Santos was in a big spot. The type of spot every baseball player dreamed about for the first time when they were in little league. Down to your last out in the 9th inning, trailing by one run, Gary Sheffield on base (okay, Gary Sheffield probably wasn’t in your dream), and your playing in one of baseball’s hallowest grounds.
Omir Santos childhood dream came true.
Blasting a shot to the top of the Green Monster. Umm, but was it a home run. Ruling on the field, no. Ruling after Jerry Manuel made sure the umps didn’t fuck up the call by using instant replay, YES.
Home Fucking Run. good game Boston.
That was the first ever replay in Fenway Park history. And it is a replay that Boston fans will remember for a long, long time.
The Mets are Good, the Mets are Great, Thank You for this Team

Live Darryl Strawberry Chat Friday afternoon on the four letter juggernaut of all things sports.

The San Francisco Giants made a game of it late.
Then Francisco Slammed the Door.
In the cluth, Face of the Franchise David Wright and Manager Jerry Manuel’s favorite Omir Santos broke the game open in the ninth with RBI base hits.
The reality that all Mets fans have to realize is that the 2009 Mets are simply fun to watch. Especially now that they are winning the close games. Even when they were losing, they were in every game and were getting plenty of opportunities. Now the offense is capitalizing on those same opportunities and we are scoring more runs more often.
Fun to Watch
- On base they steal often. So cool.
- They Play D. Yea, they have their moments of futility, but they also have more then their fair show of Top 10 Plays.
- Mets have the best pitcher in baseball. Every time he pitches I think he will throw the Mets first No-Hitter.
- Doubles and Triples. Love the speed.
- Home Runs. Love the power.
- CitiField.
- Carlos Beltran off to a great start.
- 22+ Run Differential
- 2 Game Lead in the NL east
- No ‘roid infested players
