Maine Loses Lead
Posted by Señor Met in Los Angeles Dodgers on May 20th, 2009
John Maine had been coming on over his last four starts, with three wins. Looked good for another Maine win, but it unraveled in the 6th as he let up an untimely home run.
Dodgers beat the Mets 5-3. Hope we can bounce back on Thursday and get a win, because we need to know we can beat one of the National League’s best teams.
Jose Reyes returns but Carlos Delgado will be out for just over two months. Delgado will be missed for his power. And it sure as Hell isn’t like we got power hitting first basemen waiting in the wings.
Let’s Go Mets. Send those drunk, unfriendly fans at Dodger Stadium home unhappy next time.
Mets Sink Pirates
Posted by Señor Met in Pittsburgh Pirates on May 12th, 2009
After the great 10-1 victory over Pittsburgh in which every aspect of the game was ideal all I can say is let’s keep this up: 6 Straight wins, Maine pitching well, Season high 17 hits.
1st place in our division.
From Unknown to Well Known with One Swing of the Bat
Posted by Señor Met in CitiField, Florida Marlins on April 28th, 2009
Omir Santos stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the first inning…
Mets fans were saying to themselves “Who is this guy?”
After Santos swung the bat…
Mets fans were saying to themselves “Where has this guy been?”
Omir Santos hit his first career grand slam, hell, it was his first career home run and his first career RBIs.
Filling in for injured catcher Brian Schneider, Santos made the most of his opportunity by hitting CitiField’s first ever grand slam that kept the Florida Marlins reeling for their seventh straight loss.
After the game, reliever J.J. Putz gave Santos a little welcome to the team moment. While Santos was being interviewed on the field, Putz gave him a shaving cream facial.
Santos wasn’t the only one to shine tonight as the Mets starting pitching was also great. John Maine delivered a one hit 6 inning performance and the Mets won 7-1.
For one day, the stars were aligned over New York. Both clutch hitting and impressive starting pitching. Maybe all it took was an unknown.
Mets Lose Opening Series at CitiField
Posted by Señor Met in San Diego Padres on April 17th, 2009
San Diego Padres 6-5 win gave them 2 out of 3 wins during the opening series at the new CitiField. The Mets got to Jake Peavy but not as much as the Padres got to John Maine.
I don’t want to go into details about the Mets relatively slow start. We have lost 2 out of the first 3 series and that is just not acceptable.
